Letter to God
Setting: A young person sitting in a chair with a pad and pen, writing a letter to God.
Young Person: Love, Jamie. Let me just read this to make sure I said everything right.
Dear God,
I know you know everything about me, but sometimes I just like to write and tell you about my day. I guess it's more for me than for you. Anyway, today my family met with these other people, so naturally, I had to go along. When we got there, these people started talking about this guy who had done something wrong…not sure what it was. Boy were they brutal. They were all smiling and acting like they were right in what they were saying….never the less, I thought it was kinda rude how they kept saying how messed up this guy was. Then, all of a sudden the front door opened and in walked in this guy that smelled like rotten eggs. He had been drinking, big time, and his clothes were old and dirty. It was like a movie….as soon as the door closed behind the guy everyone scattered….like it was a fire drill or something! One had to go to the bathroom, another had to make a phone call..it was like it was a pre-planned getaway! Then, other people started to come in also….they all looked very depressed and tired. I was wondering why they even bothered to come over if they were that wasted! When I asked my brother, he said that they were all obligated to be there on that particular day, but I don't think he understood why either. There was a piano in the room and when some other guy decided to play something and sing along, it all of a sudden became like a funeral home! This one lady, that just a few minutes before was being really funny; laughing and joking with everyone, became stone faced…like a zombie, as soon as the guy started playing. It was really weird. He finally stopped and everyone just sort of sat around doing his or her own thing. Some people read, some talked, some even slept. This one guy was doing a lot of talking, but he was such a bore that no one was even listening. Another guy was going around asking for money, but I didn't see anyone give him anything, except this one old lady that did give a penny or two. A little while later someone mention that there was a bunch of food and drink delivered to the basement, so everyone made a mad rush down there….you would have thought they were handing out $100 bills! They wouldn't let the drunk guy in…you know, they didn't want the smell to offend any of the other guests…but everyone else was having a great time. It was like they were the exact opposite of how they were a few minutes earlier, when they were upstairs. Then, some guys turned on the football game and they yelled and screamed and cheered so loud, I could hardly hear myself think!
Well, God….that's all for now. All in all, it was an OK day. Mom says that we might try a different church next week….wish YOU could have been there today….well, maybe next week!
Love,
Jamie
