World's View vs God's View

We have seen the distorted view of the world peek through in movies, and many other things, but it is now evident in our own lives. Christian women every day submit to the world's view of beauty. In the past, this has been seen in such sickening acts as wearing corsets dangerously tight, to binding feet as small as three inches. The world has pressured us all to conform to ridiculous laws of beauty, which often go against God's view of beauty.

The Bible clearly states in 1 Peter 3:3-4, that "Your beauty shall not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is at great worth in God's sight."

Throughout the Bible, we see that evidence is not put on things, which will pass away, such as outward beauty, but the things, which will last eternally. In 1 John 2:17 we read, "The world and it's desires will pass away, but the man who does the will of God lasts forever."

Obviously, most Christian women will not have their breasts enlarged to become beautiful, but I along with others am guilty of other sins. We are guilty of not only putting too much emphasis on how we look, but also not enough emphasis on how our hearts look to Christ. Instead of spending so much time putting on makeup, we should pray; instead of looking into a mirror at our faces, we should look into a mirror of our hearts; and instead of reading magazines about new ways to cleanse our skin, we should go to the word for ways to cleanse our hearts. My prayer is that God will give me the discipline ad maturity to focus more upon the things, which matter to Him and less on the things, which matter to the world.
